Robert Nelsen is the head personal injury attorney at Tower Legal Group, having handled matters in the fields of personal injury, trucking accidents, dog bites, construction-site accidents, insurance bad faith, etc. for many years, having been involved in countless six, seven and eight-figure results for his deserving clients in every aspect of litigation and has been a part of some of the largest personal injury settlements and verdicts in the area. These results have made him a pre-eminent figure in the field of personal injury throughout Northern California, which is why he currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Capitol City Trial Lawyers Association (“CCTLA”). He has also been selected by his peers as a “Rising Star” by Northern California Super Lawyers since 2015 and has been included in the Top Lawyers List in Sacramento Magazine.
Coming from a family of teachers, Robert approaches the attorney-client relationship first and foremost as an educator. By instructing clients at the outset on how cases are evaluated as well as the tactics insurance companies take to try and minimize a deserving victim’s case value, Robert has found that clients walk away not only knowing what the plan for their case is, but also why that plan is in their best interests. His focus on education has also lead to him conducting teaching seminars for other lawyers and law students.
Regardless of the size of the case, Robert always zealously advocates for his clients, something clearly demonstrated by his track record. Personal injury matters, by their very nature, involve a lot of uncertainties for an injury victim both medically and financially. These issues can be very stressful on their own, but are made even more difficult when also dealing with insurance companies. Robert has the experience and resources to help ease that stress and ensure the client gets a deserving result.
Another issue often overlooked in the field of personal injury involves liens and other reimbursement claims associated with a personal injury victim’s medical care. These matters can be overwhelming to most non-lawyers, but Robert has years of experience in this field, having even litigated them when necessary. The outcome of issues involving medical liens/reimbursement claims can often have as much, if not more, of an impact on the client’s “net” recovery than the total settlement, which, of course, is the most important thing.
Outside of work, Robert is an avid soccer fan and drummer. He is also very involved in his community – especially the legal community – devoting a lot of time to the CCTLA Board of Directors and the Alumni Association of his alma mater, Lincoln Law School.
A brief list of Robert’s significant results is set forth below:
- In 2013, he was part of a trial team that achieved a jury verdict of $34,921,215.33 (rising to $39,585,545.81 after post-trial matters were addressed). This verdict was the largest personal injury verdict in the State of California that year and remains the largest personal injury verdict in Sacramento County history.
- In 2020, Robert oversaw a settlement with the California Highway Patrol (“CHP”) for $7,100,000 for a woman who was injured by a CHP Officer who ran a red light and broadsided the vehicle she was a passenger in. She was 7-months pregnant at the time, although, fortunately, her unborn baby was unharmed in the collision and was ultimately delivered without complications. While Plaintiff was able to avoid any surgeries, she did have to undergo several pain management procedures. Her doctors told her she may eventually require future surgical intervention. This case was the basis for a teaching seminar on “Maximizing Damages” for other lawyers in Northern California.
